This course is designed specifically for the Managers of Nursing and Residential Care Homes, and provides vital information about current National Care Standards requirements, Health & Safety Executive recommendations and outlines the practical day to day requirements for those responsible for operation of Nursing & Residential Homes.
The current guidelines for Legionella Control (L 8) have been in place since January 2001. L8, and a wide variety of other legislation requires that water systems are properly installed, safely maintained and monitored to ensure water quality. This includes domestic and non-domestic water services as well as air conditioning and cooling towers.
The National Care Standards inspections specifically require Legionella control to be addressed as part of the control and management systems in place at Nursing and Residential Homes. Similarly Local Authority Environmental Health Departments address Legionellosis issues and frequently implement campaigns to ensure compliance.
When investigating outbreaks of Legionellosis, the HSE Inspectorate frequently finds that standards of technical competence are unsatisfactory. This is attributed variously to insufficient training, lack of technical awareness and failure in communication, and these frequently leads to enforcement action.
Our experience has confirmed that those designated as Responsible Persons will benefit from specific training relating to their role, responsibility and liability as a Responsible Person.
The L8 documentation incorporates various changes that will affect the majority of buildings and requires a renewed emphasis on implementing precautions, updating procedures, practices and maintenance of specific records.
We have tailored our popular specialist Responsible Person Management Training course to meet the needs of Nursing & Residential Homes, but have also includes other general aspects of Site Health & Safety.
This course includes an assessment and includes certification for those who complete the ½ day successfully.
